Second Essay Final

It is well known that language is a tool used for communication. It is a way for people to
develop more harmoniously, a way to express their feelings with language, and a tool to
develop entrepreneurship together. But the reality is that when you brush up on videos
online, you will find some people speaking English with an accent to ridicule others to get
more attention.
Language bias is an attitude, and some people usually label some people who are new to the
U.S. with this language bias, or the unique English accent these people have. This is because
when these people come to the United States, they may not speak English fluently. These
people will form such a group by posting videos that humiliate these people to gain more
attention and also subtly make psychological jabs at these people. For example ,19-year-old
Billiard apologized for the ‘young and ignorant’ insult, but denied ever making fun of the
Asian accent, which led to the phenomenon being increasingly imitated, leaving these
people who speak this unique accent psychologically damaged. Johann Wolfgang von
Goethe – “It is not in the language itself how correct, how powerful, how beautiful, but in
the power of the thought it embodies ……” As Goethe said, what is being expressed is that
we don’t need to study the existence of this unique language, but what really needs to be
discussed in depth is what people want to say by speaking it. This unique language is very
difficult to change because when we are small and live in our homeland, the language of our
homeland is embedded in our language, and when you come to a new country and learn a
new language by heart, there will inevitably be some accent here. But this is not a reason to
be prejudiced against others. When your friend or someone you don’t know has this unique
accent, you should not try to cancel them out, but be willing to help them

improve their accent and be willing to patiently listen to what they have to say. This is
because discrimination should not live in our society.
“We should accept the fact that there is no single recipe for English. Making fun of people
for using “ask” instead of “ask” or using double negatives too often just makes you look
immature.” (RAFFAELLA ZANUTTINI October 22, 2014) From this article she points out that
every natural language can express the negation of propositions. However, although the
semantic result of negation is the same, the syntactic means used for negation are different.
In this article, this phenomenon becomes very frequent in our lives and the author
denounces the effects of this behavior through these examples. In life, when people try to
communicate their language and speak because of some pronunciation problems, some
people secretly make fun of these people for their pronunciation problems. Although these
people will not cancel them on the spot, they will cancel them through some social media,
or the internet, so that these people with unique accents cannot continue to speak, because
whenever these people try to express themselves in English, the unique accent only gives
these people more reasons to make fun of them. Also, by using metaphors, the author
compares language to some ingredients, because there is no prescribed way to cook
ingredients, and a variety of dishes can be made with such ingredients. Similarly, when you
want to use language, you can express it through different accents, and although it is
inevitably a little difficult to understand when you hear this unique accent, what it expresses
is the same. Through this article, the author wants people to know and hopefully more
people will realize the seriousness of this kind of thing, because this kind of prejudice should
not be present in our society today, not only in terms of language, but also in terms of skin
color and social status. Unique accents are not funny, what is funny are the people who
make fun of those unique accents.
“If Black English is not a language, then tell me, what is?” In this article, James Baldwin tries
to express why it is necessary to divide languages into categories.
Such as Black English, Yellow English, etc. These different labels represent the same
meaning, so why is it necessary to distinguish between them? This kind of English with your
own accent can express your region deeply, can make the other person understand you
faster, can easily discover the group you represent, and so on. But why do people find this
unique English accent to be a ridiculous behavior? This unique accent can also be a symbol
of a culture. It can represent a cultural exchange, just as Black English was soon spoken, the
development of rap music and the development of jazz music. All of these can show that
this distinctive accent is not just a negative expression. This English accent with an ethnic
accent can better interpret the culture of the country.” A language exists
through brutal necessity, and the rules of a language are determined by what the language
must convey.” This quote from the text shows that in the social environment of the time,
blacks were underprivileged and not given the respect they deserved, and then whites
indoctrinated blacks into thinking for themselves so that they could not think independently.
The author believes that this behavior is wrong and cruel. Because language is a tool to
communicate with each other, not a tool to insult and humiliate each other. We should apply
this right to speak freely to everyone. Although some unique accents can be difficult to
understand, this is exactly the right way to better understand what kind of person the other
person is.
As shown above, verbal prejudice is a bad behavior that hurts many people. We should
meet new people with a harmonious mind, not with prejudice. Not only the verbal
prejudice, I think the behavior of prejudice is also wrong. All people are equal and this
the concept should appear in everyone’s mind
